College Notes

In K.C., Kellis Robinett wrote the Kansas State Univ. athletic department has "decided to extend its apparel contract with Nike," and that could be "good news for anyone who wants to see the Wildcats in new football uniforms." Football coach Chris Klieman said, “I don’t think we’re going to change to lavender or black uniforms tomorrow, but now we at least can start having some conversations.” Robinett noted silver pants, purple jerseys and silver helmets have become "synonymous with the team’s success over the past three decades," so some are "happy to see K-State wear the same color combinations every single week." Others are "ravenous for alternate uniforms like you see elsewhere in college football." AD Gene Taylor has "already said that black uniforms are 'not happening.'" But other options "could be on the table now that K-State and Nike are moving forward with a new deal" (K.C. STAR, 9/13).

INCOMING WAVE: In Tampa, Joey Knight noted "limited tickets remain -- mostly in the 300 level" -- for Saturday’s nationally televised clash between USF and Alabama, "potentially making it one of the most well-attended USF home games in program history." USF's single-game home attendance record remains the 69,383 who turned out for fourth-ranked FSU’s 30-17 triumph against USF on Sept. 29, 2012. Only seven home games in program history have "attracted crowds of 60,000 or more," but Saturday’s 3:30pm ET contest "should easily eclipse that mark" (TAMPA BAY TIMES, 9/13).

OPEN HOUSE: In Greensboro, Richard Craver noted the former Greensboro HQ of the ACC is "for sale with the Triad chapter of CBRE handling the marketing." The ACC is the seller and the building’s appraised value is about $4.5M. The 24,251-square-foot, two-story building sits on 1.07 acres in the Grandover Commons business park. It was built in 1996 specifically as the ACC HQ. It is "zoned as mixed development with 46 total office spaces, including five technology/media rooms, four workrooms and three conference rooms" (Greensboro NEWS & RECORD, 9/13).
