Broncos to hold Lucha Libre match prior to home game

Broncos

The Broncos will hold a wrestling match from Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) prior to the team’s Oct. 22 game against the Packers, marketing the “first time an NFL team has collaborated with the Mexican professional wrestling organization,” according to Joe Nguyen of the DENVER POST. Additionally, Broncos mascot Miles and “‘five of his friends’ will have an exhibition match on Sept. 8 at Arena Mexico in Mexico City.” The partnership comes as part of CMLL’s 90th anniversary celebration. Colorado-based artist Armando Silva is “designing a limited edition T-shirt that will be available for purchase in October” at both the Broncos team stores and in Dicass Sports stores in Mexico City (DENVER POST, 8/28).

MORE TO THE STORY? DRAFTKINGS’s Nick Simon noted Jaguars fans yesterday had just a “brief window” to buy one of the WWE-style championship belt as part of the wrestling company’s deal with the NFL before it was “removed from the WWE, NFL, and Fanatics websites.” Fanatics claims that the Jaguars belts “aren’t available because they sold out really quickly” (DRAFTKINGS.com, 8/28). However, FORBES’s Alfred Konuwa noted it “wasn’t a coincidence” the Jaguars belt currently is unavailable. The Jaguars are owned by the Khan family, which includes AEW owner Tony Khan. Additionally, the Jaguars have been “featured on AEW throughout the years, including a cameo from then-head coach Urban Meyer during the 2021 Stadium Stampede” (FORBES, 8/28).
