Big 12 considering 're-brand' options, though not expected to change name

All 16 of the conference’s 2024 ADs agreed that re-brand options were worth exploringGetty Images

Kansas State AD Gene Taylor said the Big 12 “might re-brand," but does not see that including “re-naming the conference," according to Kellis Robinett of the WICHITA EAGLE. Taylor said the Big 12 is a "good brand” and “everybody feels pretty good about what the Big 12 means.” Taylor: “The Big 12 still has a lot of cachet to it, particularly the last couple of years. So I think that is going to stay.” Taylor said that all 16 of the conference’s 2024 ADs “recently gathered for their first group meeting” last week and “agreed that re-brand options were worth exploring.” Robinett wrote changing the conference’s name is a “much harder sell.” Taylor said, “Bigger than 12 is a theme. I think you will see some things, particularly this fall from the Big 12 that give you an indication of the thought process of why we’re keeping the Big 12 name, even though we’re going to be 16 teams” (WICHITA EAGLE, 8/26).
