Former Braves exec Dick Cecil dies at 88

Former Atlanta sports exec DICK CECIL, who helped bring the Braves to Atlanta and was President of the Atlanta Chief’s soccer team, died Tuesday at age 88, according to the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. Cecil was VP of the Braves and President of Braves Productions, "which booked events at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium to put the stadium to use when the Braves weren’t playing." Cecil helped bring a Beatles concert to the stadium in August 1965, and also “brought in numerous other sporting events and concerts.” Cecil was a “founding member” of the North American Soccer League in 1967 (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 8/19).
