UCLA AD Jarmond talks realignment, benefits of Big Ten move

UCLA AD Martin Jarmond said realignment has just been part of the college world in recent years, and it will "probably remain that way moving forward." Jarmond: "Initially there’s a shock, but then you kind of settle in and you just got to be ready, you got to be nimble and flexible and that’s what we’ve been this whole time.” Jarmond said he saw Washington and Oregon's addition to the Big Ten, where UCLA will play starting in 2024, as a "positive," though he "didn't like to see how everything went down these last two weeks." Jarmond said of the Big Ten revenue share UCLA will get: "You have to have resources. … You talk about nutrition, you talk about traveling, you talk about academic support, you talk about just everything that impacts that student-athlete experience -- mental health -- there are things that we have not been able to do for our athletic program and for our student-athletes, quite frankly, that we should be doing and now we're going to have the ability to some of that" (“Bruin Report’s Brocast,” 247sports.com, 8/16).
