Allianz To Title Sponsor Drone Racing League's Top Series

Munich-based Allianz will become the title sponsor of the Drone Racing League’s elite race circuit through a multiyear global partnership. The newly titled Allianz World Championship series will begin in June and include six races. Financial terms were not disclosed, but industry sources pegged the deal at eight figures, representing DRL’s largest commercial sponsorship to date. The deal contains a series of options that could extend the pact through '21. The Allianz pact also expands significantly upon a nearly one-year sponsorship deal DRL signed in November with Bud Light.

“This is another company looking to get in on the ground floor with us,” said DRL Founder & CEO Nick Horbaczewski. “They’ve made a major commitment with us and it’s another important step in our development. We’re going into our second season, and we’ve made a lot of progress in a short period of time, partnering with the likes of Bud Light, ESPN, and now Allianz.” The deal also could see DRL stage events in some of the seven sports facilities and other corporate facilities around the world where Allianz has naming rights. CAA, which has an existing relationship with Allianz and is an investor in DRL, played a key role in brokering the agreement.
