One Million Fans Estimated To Have Celebrated At Patriots' Parade

Boston Police said that 1 million fans "braved the snow and rain" to attend the Patriots' Super Bowl parade yesterday, "with a few needing medical help" (BOSTON HERALD, 2/8).

Late-night TV shows discussed the parade, with ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel saying Patriots QB Tom Brady "declared it a holiday, which I did not know he had the power to do." Kimmel: "He gave everyone the day off today. I don't think the mayor is even allowed to give people (the day off). Has an athlete ever overthrown a city government before because it could be dangerous? What if he decides to use his powers for evil? You know Tom Brady is gluten free. What if he makes everyone go gluten free?” Kimmel added of the parade, "It was very cold but that didn't stop the die-hards from having a good time because most of them were too drunk to feel anything anyway. … Usually in Boston they have to wait until St. Patrick's Day to get publicly intoxicated before noon” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 2/7).

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh appeared on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” with host Trevor Noah telling him he was “worried you were going to cancel on us because the Patriots won the Super Bowl.” Noah asked, “Why do people still come out? You’ve won it so many times.” Walsh: “It's because it’s No. 5 and the whole country hates us and they hate Tom Brady. They think he's really handsome but they hate him”  (“The Daily Show,” Comedy Central, 2/7).
