Nevada Assembly Has Not Yet Voted On Stadium Funding Bill

The Nevada Assembly reconvenes today at 9:00am PT after a long-awaited vote on a bill to fund a domed NFL stadium "failed to materialize" early this morning after a 17-hour session that "saw plenty of controversy." Assembly Majority Leader Paul Anderson expects a vote today and "said 'yes' when he was asked if he expected Senate Bill 1 to pass" with the required 28 votes. This after "new drama ensued" from a REVIEWJOURNAL.com report on a Nevada Department of Transportation study that found nearly $900M in road projects "eventually would be needed for the stadium" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 10/14).

Greg D'Alba Leaving WME-IMG As President Of Global Sales

By Michael Smith

Greg D’Alba’s run as WME-IMG President of Global Sales & Marketing will come to an end at the close of the year. WME-IMG Chief Content Officer Mark Shapiro informed the staff yesterday that D’Alba will leave to pursue personal and philanthropic opportunities. D’Alba joined WME-IMG in June '14 to build a global partnerships division, the first global integrated sales and marketing team at the agency.

“I am extremely proud of the team we’ve assembled and all we’ve accomplished here,” D’Alba said. “WME-IMG is blazing a new trail for the industry and I could not be more excited to watch the trajectory of this amazing company moving forward. I look forward to staying connected as an advisor and playing a part in that evolution.”

Indiana Univ. Dedicating Newly Renovated Assembly Hall

By John Bauernfeind, Staff Writer

Indiana Univ. today will dedicate Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall, an 18-month renovation process that will reveal a new scoreboard, club seating, added fan amenities and the opening of the Mark Cuban Center for Sports Media & Technology. IU AD Fred Glass said the athletics department tried to maintain the arena’s “iconic feel” with the renovations, the first major improvements for a building that opened in '71. Among the upgrades are an HD videoboard, an atrium in the south lobby, new seating and 16 all-gender bathrooms.

See today's issue of THE DAILY for more on IU's arena project.

Tennessee Trustees Set To Vote On Neyland Stadium Upgrades

The Univ. of Tennessee's BOT today is expected to consider a potential $106M renovation to Neyland Stadium. The project includes a back wall to "meet NCAA standards on the minimum distance required between the playing surface and any physical boundaries." Other renovations include "expanding the main thoroughfare of the south concourse, improving concessions and adding rest rooms." An August '19 target date has been set for project completion (AP, 10/13).

Vinik: Lightning Finished Fiscal Year At "Roughly Break Even Point"

Lightning Owner Jeff Vinik said the team finished its fiscal year at a "roughly break even point." Speaking yesterday, Vinik said that "beyond profitability," his "other major goals are to be competitive on the ice and continue the club's community outreach efforts." Breaking even is a "watershed moment for the Lightning, validating Tampa Bay as a viable hockey market." The team currently has 14,600 season-ticket holders (BIZJOURNALS.com, 10/14).

Vin Scully Makes First Post-Retirement Media Appearance on ABC

Vin Scully appeared on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night, his first media appearance since retiring as Dodgers broadcaster. Host Jimmy Kimmel said Scully is the “announcer against which all others are measured.” Scully said if he “had any kind of a trademark whatsoever” as a broadcaster, “it would be I would try to call the play as quickly and as accurately as possible and (then) shut up.”

On his post-retirement schedule, Scully said, “I have a very important engagement on Monday the 17th. I am lecturing at the 6th grade school of St. Mills. I have a granddaughter and a grandson there. We have 16 grandchildren. If I can’t think of something to do, someone out there will.” As the interview ended, Scully agreed to call Kimmel's home run from the '04 MLB All-Star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game (ABC, 10/13).
