FIFA Presidential Candidate Prince Ali Seeks To Delay Election

FIFA presidential candidate Prince Ali bin al-Hussein is "asking for Friday's election to be suspended in a dispute over voting procedures." Ali's lawyers today said that they are "seeking 'provisional measures' from the Court of Arbitration for Sport to postpone the vote to select Sepp Blatter's successor." The statement said that Prince Ali took the matter to CAS yesterday (AP, 2/23).

Meanwhile, U.S. Soccer is "planning to avoid a public endorsement" of any of the candidates. The federation's representative in Zurich will be MLS Commissioner Don Garber, and his choice "will most likely be known only to a handful of U.S. Soccer officials." However, it is "clear" that U.S. Soccer "will vote for either Prince Ali or Gianni Infantino." USSF President Sunil Gulati told the BOD that the "final decision would be made this week in Zurich" (N.Y. TIMES, 2/23).
