Oilers Sign Aramark As Food Provider At New Rogers Place Arena

The Oilers have signed Aramark as the food provider for Rogers Place, the team's new $480M arena opening in fall '16. The five-year deal covers all aspects of food service including general concessions, suite catering and club-level dining. The agreement follows Aramark consulting with the Oilers to develop the infrastructure tied to food and beverage operations. Delaware North Sportservice runs the food at Rexall Place, the Oilers' current home.

Lexus Agrees To Sponsor Mavericks, Stars, American Airlines Center

Lexus has signed a five-year partnership with American Airlines Center and its tenants – the Mavericks and Stars – that includes naming rights to both the Platinum Level club and parking garage. The teams plan to announce the deal today. Financial terms were not disclosed, but both Stars Exec VP & CRO Brad Alberts and Mavericks Exec VP/Corporate Sponsorships George Killebrew said the deal is among the teams’ most lucrative, with each calling Lexus a flagship partner. This comes as construction is underway on Lexus parent Toyota’s new U.S. corporate HQ outside Dallas.

IndyCar Paying Tribute To Justin Wilson As Season Finale Nears

IndyCar today will pay tribute to Justin Wilson, with the late driver's Andretti Autosport teammate, Marco Andretti, leading a procession of race cars across the Golden Gate Bridge at 4:00pm ET. Andretti "will drive the No. 25, Wilson's number." The Verizon IndyCar Series also announced a "specially designed logo that will be featured on driver helmets and cars this weekend" at the season-ending GoPro Grand Prix at Sonoma. T-shirts and decals are "available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the Wilson Children's Fund" set up for his two daughters (USA TODAY, 8/27).

USA Today takes out a full-page ad in this morning's edition to honor Wilson as a "racing champion and a true gentleman." It includes the hashtag #BadAssWilson (THE DAILY).

Phillies Plan To Extend Protective Netting To Improve Fan Safety

The Phillies plan to “extend protective netting for fans" after a rash of incidents this season involving fans being hit by objects from the field. Sources said that the Phillies "intend to install such netting at Citizens Bank Park, but are waiting on baseball before proceeding with final plans.” Sources added that the Phillies "do not want to proceed and then be forced to adjust if baseball establishes different regulations." MLB Chief Communications Officer Pat Courtney said that the league "is working diligently on the fan-safety issue, but does not expect a resolution before the end of the season" (FOXSPORTS.com, 8/26).

Public Body Approves $25M-Plus In Red Wings Arena Contracts

The Detroit Downtown Development Authority yesterday approved more than $25M in construction contracts for the Red Wings' new arena. The contracts were awarded in "three bid packages," with the main recipients being Midwest Steel, Crown Corr and Vector Foiltec. Local companies "received more than 33% of the work awarded, exceeding" Olympia development's goal of 30% of work for the $533M project (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 8/27).

Adidas Releases Special Edition Shoes Ahead Of MLS Rivalry Game

adidas has released "two special edition pairs of Crazy 8 shoes" ahead of Sunday's Timbers-Sounders match at CenturyLink Field. The footwear is "available for purchase now," and adidas "will celebrate the release of the shoes" with events today in Seattle and tomorrow in Portland. Both events "will feature music and meet-and-greets with players." One pair features a Timbers colorway; the other is in Sounders colors (OREGONLIVE.com, 8/26).

76ers Owner Joshua Harris Donating $3.5M To Philadelphia Nonprofit

Sources said that 76ers Owner Joshua Harris has pledged to donate $3.5M to the Philadelphia Police Athletic League, marking the "largest gift ever recorded by the nonprofit youth group." Harris plans to announce the donation today at a Police Athletic League center in the city's Harrowgate neighborhood. The gift is being made "through a family foundation affiliated with Harris" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 8/27).

Pizza Hut has signed on as an official sponsor of ESPN Fantasy Football (Pizza Hut).
