Public Memorial Service For Jerry Tarkanian Set For March 1

A private funeral for Basketball HOFer and former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian will be held Monday in Las Vegas. A "public memorial service will be held March 1 at the Thomas & Mack Center at a time to be determined." Tarkanian died yesterday at the age of 84 from respiratory and cardiac failure at Valley Hospital Medical Center (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 2/12).

Remembrances of Tarkanian are pouring in. ESPN.com goes with the header, "Jerry Tarkanian: Complex, Successful." The L.A. TIMES notes many of Tarkanian's "missives about dysfunction" at the NCAA were "incredibly prescient." YAHOO SPORTS headline: "A True Rebel If Ever There Was One." The PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER notes Tarkanian "made Las Vegas important in the basketball world." LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL header: "Tarkanian Gave Media Plenty To Cover – Good And Bad."
