Rams Owner Stan Kroenke Plans To Build NFL Stadium In L.A. Area

Rams Owner Stan Kroenke "plans to build an NFL stadium" at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, Calif., and has "joined forces" with Stockbridge Capital Group, owners of the 238-acre site. They said that they "plan to add an 80,000-seat stadium and 6,000-seat performance venue to the already-massive development of retail, office, hotel and residential space." In the ongoing effort to bring the NFL back to L.A., this marks the "first time an existing team owner has controlled a local site large enough for a stadium and parking" (L.A. TIMES, 1/5).


Adidas' Apparel Deal With Miami Ends Long-Running Nike Pact

adidas has "outbid its competitors to become the new supplier" of apparel for the Univ. of Miami, "ending the school's pioneering partnership with Nike." A source said that adidas and UM will announce the deal this week, "beginning the process of replacing a brand connected to the Hurricanes for the last 27 years." adidas' bid is "believed to be in the ballpark" of the eight-year, $33M pact it announced with Arizona State last month. Miami was the first college to "sign an all-sports contract" with Nike (PALMBEACHPOST.com, 1/5).

Dannon's Oikos Brand To Break Ads Starring Cam Newton

Dannon today will break ads for a "new NFL-branded Greek yogurt targeting men," with Panthers QB Cam Newton as the featured endorser. The new spot for Oikos Triple Zero, created by Y&R, Barcelona, will break on NFL Network. Ads "also will run during the NFC and AFC championship games." Dannon VP/Marketing Art D'Elia said that the company "does not plan to return to the Super Bowl" after running ads during the '12 and '14 games (ADAGE.com, 1/5).

City Of Charlotte In Talks To Have NASCAR HOF Loan Forgiven

Charlotte City Council members today will hear about "proposed amendments" to an agreement in which Wells Fargo and Bank of America would forgive a $19.1M loan to the city that helped build the NASCAR HOF. An agenda item for today's meeting "suggests that some agreement has been reached." However, Deputy City Manager Rob Kimble "wouldn't talk about the proposed amendment or the negotiations" (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 1/3).

PyeongChang Seeks More Sponsors After Audit Reveals Shortfalls

Organizers of the '18 PyeongChang Games today said that they "expect a series of new sponsorship deals after a South Korean state audit revealed a huge shortfall in forecast revenue and snowballing borrowing." The audit showed PyeongChang borrowed US$19.3M in the past two years. Organizing committee spokesperson Lee Ji-Hye: "Talks are under way with various potential sponsors, and we hope good results will come in the near future." Lee added that preparations "would be stepped up this year" (AFP, 1/5).
