Troy Vincent Not Slated To Testify At Adrian Peterson Appeal Hearing

Viking RB Adrian Peterson will get an appeal hearing today for his indefinite suspension, and a source said that NFL Exec VP/Football Operations Troy Vincent "isn't scheduled to testify." However, appeals officer Harold Henderson "could call Vincent for a separate testimony later in the week." Peterson recorded conversations in which Vincent pushed him to "attend a Nov. 14 hearing with outside experts," a source said. Vincent is "on the witness list" for today's Senate Commerce Committee hearing on domestic violence (USATODAY.com, 12/1).

MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL reps today will testify before the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee about domestic violence in pro sports. U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), who chairs the committee, called the hearing, saying "until very recently, the leagues' records have not been very good" on the issue. MLBPA, NBPA and NHLPA officials are scheduled to appear, while the NFLPA "will not be represented" (AP, 12/2).

DC Council Expected To Vote On Revised Soccer Stadium Deal

DC Council Chair Phil Mendelson said that he will ask the body to vote today on a "revised deal to build" a stadium for DC United. The new agreement "removes some of the previously negotiated tax abatements and would require" more than $60M in new city borrowing. To complete the proposed $300M deal by year’s end, the council "must take the first of two votes" today. Mendelson yesterday laid out "new details of the council’s plan to fund the District’s out-of-pocket stadium costs" (WASHINGTON POST, 12/2).

Meanwhile, the Las Vegas City Council yesterday "extended the deadline to vote on a soccer stadium subsidy deal" to Dec. 17. Council members voted 4-3 to "amend the deadline language." The city is working with Findlay Sports & Entertainment and The Cordish Cos. on a $200M, 24,000-seat soccer stadium proposal for downtown Symphony Park. The Dec. 1 deadline needed to be extended, or the proposed stadium deal "would have died" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 12/2).

The 76ers today are set to announce a sponsorship with DraftKings. Included in the deal are stanchion and courtside LED signage, digital assets, radio ad inventory, hospitality and tickets. The 76ers will host daily fantasy games offering non-cash prizes on the team’s website, and stage in-game promotions. This marks the fourth top-level deal signed by the club in the past 10 months. The Wizards have also completed a DraftKings deal, and the company is expected to sign as many as a half-dozen NBA deals this season.

Twins Look To Create New Bar, Event Space At Target Field

The Twins today will request formal permission from the Minnesota Ballpark Authority for a $2.5M project at Target Field that would "create a new 'destination bar' and an expanded event space" prior to the start of the '15 season. The bar "would replace retail space on the main concourse between Gate 6 and the left-field foul pole." About 200 fans "could gather at the new bar, which will be elevated, creating additional drink rows from which to see the field" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 12/1).

FAU Planning New Athletic Facility Thanks To Record Donation

Florida Atlantic Univ. officials today will announce that the school is "building a new athletic facility to primarily be used by the football program." The project is funded by a "donation that is expected to be the largest single gift in the school's history." The facility will feature a "new, more spacious locker room," plus a "larger weight room and athletic training room." Today's news conference is expected to include "details of who made the donation, how much the facility will cost and where it will be located" (South Florida SUN-SENTINEL, 12/2).

Laugh Track....Best Buds

NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Kevin Harvick appeared on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night with the championship trophy. Harvick said of celebrating his first championship, “The celebration was pretty good this year. We’re fortunate to have a sponsor like Budweiser who has a great beverage to start celebrations with and to end celebrations with.” Host Jimmy Kimmel added, “If M&Ms is your sponsor it’s not that much fun.” Harvick added, “Budweiser and Jimmy Johns make a great partner. We went through 80 cases of beer after the race.” Harvick said of the new Chase format, “We all know how it works now but I don’t think any of us really knew what was going to happen. In the end, the intensity level was way up from what we had in the past. ... Winning was your golden ticket to advance to the Chase, to advance through the rounds of the Chase. … It definitely made it more interesting, especially to the casual fan” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live,” ABC, 12/1).

Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert addressed the protests and unrest in Ferguson, Missouri, noting, “It's not enough that they destroyed Ferguson. These protests have spread to what Americans hold most sacred: football.” Colbert said of five Rams players making a "don't shoot" gesture: “Well, that is just wrong. Why would anyone surrender to the Raiders?” Colbert echoed what the St. Louis Police Officers Association stated, saying it was “'tasteless and offensive' to see this at an NFL game, which reminds me: Welcome back, Ray Rice. We've missed you. The cops are right. You have to stop that kind of offensive gesture before it spreads. I mean during the game I saw referees do it a bunch of times” (“The Colbert Report,” Comedy Central, 12/1).

NBC’s Jimmy Fallon said, “There are reports that Vladimir Putin bribed a soccer official with a Picasso painting so he would support Russia’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup.” Fallon said in a fake Russian accent, “Yeah, Putin was like, ‘It wasn’t Picasso.
