Latest NFL Play 60 TV Spot To Debut During Thanksgiving Games

The latest spot promoting the NFL Play 60 program will debut on TV Thanksgiving Day and run for the rest of the season. The ad, titled "Come Out To Play," focuses on "where the likes of the Manning brothers, Victor Cruz, J.J. Watt and Calvin Johnson embraced football as youngsters." Other highlighted locations include "the playground where Cam Newton played in College Park, Georgia" and the "South Oakland neighborhood and home in Pittsburgh where Dan Marino began to develop." The spot can be viewed at NFLRush.com/Play60 (AP, 11/26).

Dish Network, CBS Again Extend Carriage Contract Negotiations

Dish Network and CBS late yesterday agreed to "once again extend the deadline" for their carriage negotiations, "guaranteeing that football fans will be able to watch" CBS' coverage of the Bears-Lions game tomorrow via Dish. This marks the "second contract extension granted by CBS during the last six days." One "issue is how Dish plans to include the broadcast network in a new low-cost Internet subscription service that Dish plans to launch in the coming months" (L.A. TIMES, 11/26).

Meanwhile, the new owner of Boston's WFXT-Fox is in a "heated showdown with Verizon over a proposed rate increase to carry Fox programming." If a deal cannot be reached by tomorrow morning, the station "will go dark on Thanksgiving" for about 400,000 Verizon FiOS subscribers. Fox will air tomorrow's Eagles-Cowboys game (BOSTON GLOBE, 11/26).

Richard Sherman Helps Make Word Game App, Mocks NFL In Skit

"Letters of Boom," a new word game app to which Seahawks CB Richard Sherman "has lent his brash persona," goes on sale today at the iTunes store. Sherman created the game with app makers Digital Kitchen. The app's premise is "addictively simple," like "'Scrabble' without the annoying wait for others to take their turn" (USA TODAY, 11/26).

Meanwhile, Sherman yesterday at his weekly media availability performed a skit "mocking the NFL for being 'hypocritical' in fining teammate Marshawn Lynch." The skit involved a cardboard cutout of Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin. Sherman used products he and Baldwin endorse to make the point the league last week fined Lynch $100,000 for "not talking to the media in the locker room" following a loss to the Chiefs while also "wanting them to talk as pitchmen for the league’s sponsors" (Tacoma NEWS TRIBUNE, 11/26).

The event at their stadium preview center is "not open to the public" (STARTRIBUNE.com, 11/26). ESPN's Taylor Twellman, who is from Minneapolis, will share at the event "why Minnesota should should be excited about a potential MLS franchise" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 11/26).

USL Pro expansion club Austin Aztex last night unveiled their uniforms and an MLS affiliation with the Crew ahead of their inaugural season in '15. The Crew "will loan Austin up to four players next year, and the staffs will share technical and support information." Aztex Owner Rene Van De Zande said that "six or seven MLS franchises approached the club about an affiliation." USL-MLS affiliations are "one-year deals, but Aztex officials envision this marriage lasting awhile" (AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN, 11/26).
