Selig Discusses Drug Testing On CBS Ahead Of Town Hall Meeting

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig today will hold his annual Town Hall meeting, which will be streamed on MLB.com starting at 1:30pm ET. Selig "will answer questions in front of a live audience during the FanFest" at Jacob Javits Center. This comes after a full day yesterday for Selig that included a Politico Playbook breakfast, a live session with Chris Russo on SiriusXM and an appearance on CBS' "Late Show" (MLB.com, 7/15).

On last night's "Late Show," Selig said of MLB's drug testing policy, “I’m very proud of where we are, I’m very proud of what we are doing and what we’re going to do because it’s in the best interest in our sport and it’s the right thing to do.” CBS' David Letterman: “Are the owners complicitious in some of this?” Selig: “I don’t think so. They are so aggressive and they have been behind me so much because they understand that it is a stain on the sport if you don’t do anything about it.” Letterman: “What’s going to happen to Alex Rodriguez? Is he ever going to play for the Yankees again?” Selig: “Only time will tell. We are in the midst of a very thorough and tough investigation.” Letterman: “Is he one that might be suspended?” Selig: “I’d rather not say who.” Letterman: “You know don’t you? I can tell you know.” Selig said, “I do. The answer is I do,” which earned him his biggest laugh of the interview. He also discussed Dodgers announcer Vin Scully, past All-Star Games and playing baseball as a kid (CBS, 7/15).

Letterman offered his take on the state of the All-Star Game in his opening monologue.
