Home Run Derby Generates $500,000-Plus Charitable Donation
Last night's Chevrolet MLB Home Run Derby generated $529,000 in charitable donations. The notable figure of more than a half-million dollars was down from the $615,000 raised from last year's event in K.C., largely because just five gold-ball home runs, which generate more donation proceeds, were hit last night compared to 16 such homers last year. The shift in title sponsor for the Derby from State Farm to Chevrolet also introduced a slightly different donation structure, in which the gold balls were worth $23,000 each instead of $18,000 but far fewer of them were hit.
