Franchise Notes

CSNPHILLY.com's Jim Salisbury reported word is "beginning to circulate in well-placed baseball circles" that the Phillies have longtime MLB exec Andy MacPhail "on their radar as a potential new leader of the franchise." It is "not clear what role MacPhail would have if he were to join the Phillies." Pat Gillick succeeded Dave Montgomery as "interim club president late last summer and had the interim tag removed in January." It is "not clear whether the Phillies would bring on a new club president during the season, wait until after the season to make a move, or simply stick with Gillick" (CSNPHILLY.com, 6/15).

JUST DO IT: ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio was reporting outside of Gillette Stadium and noted the Patriots have trademarked the phrases “We Are All Patriots” and “Do Your Job” which appear on the Patriots’ Super Bowl rings. Paolantonio said the team is “already cashing in” with T-shirts that say “Do Your Job,” which Paolantonio held up on-camera. Paolantonio added, “The ultimate contradiction is I'm here trying to do my job and (Patriots coach) Bill Belichick for the first time ever is not letting me on the field to do my job. I am barred, like all national media, from this minicamp practice. Go figure.” ESPN’s Kevin Negandhi asked, “Is there a reason why … the national media is not allowed in this? That seems like a little surprise.” Paolantonio said, “It's the Patriots. Yours is not the reason why, yours is to just do or ‘Do Your Job.’” Negandhi said of Paolantonio holding up T-shirt again, “Well, even though you're not on the field it's officially a live shot from Sal Paolantonio. He had a prop for us” (“SportsCenter,” ESPN, 6/16).

TRUST ISSUES: In Colorado Springs, Paul Klee wrote Nuggets ownership "makes it awfully tough to believe in their decisions," as it "doesn't let us have nice things." Nuggets President Josh Kroenke has "entered the wishy-washy netherworld" of Rockies Owner Dick Monfort's territory, which is a "drab place where every move is greeted with an ample dose of skepticism and doubt." The "cold reaction has nothing to do" with the team hiring Mike Malone as the new coach. It is "just difficult to trust anything Nuggets ownership does anymore" (GAZETTE.com, 6/15).

NOTHING TO SEE HERE: In N.Y., Phil Mushnick wrote the NFL Jets "continue to be run like a landfill." PSL and season-ticket holders on June 3 were e-mailed with a "come-on to upgrade their seats in exchange for the opportunity to 'talk with Jets decision makers,'" including GM John Idzik, coach Rex Ryan and others. Idzik and Ryan "were fired Dec. 29" (N.Y. POST, 6/15).
