The Suns named former Univ. of Michigan and Knicks sports marketing exec HUNTER LOCHMANN Senior VP/Marketing & Brand Strategy, beginning Feb. 19. He will report to Senior VP & Chief Sales Officer NIC BARLAGE. Lochmann most recently spent four years as UM Senior Associate AD & CMO before resigning in December. He also had a previous stint as Knicks VP/Marketing. In his new job, Lochmann will oversee marketing, game entertainment, creative services and merchandise operations for the Suns, WNBA Mercury and US Airways Center (John Lombardo, Staff Writer).

MEDIA MOVE: USA Today Sports Dir of Audience Development DAN SHANOFF was one of several people laid off by the paper last week. The group eliminated Shanoff’s job as part of a broader staff reduction. Shanoff joined USA Today three years ago when Gannett acquired his news start-up Quickish. In a series of tweets on Monday, Shanoff said he is taking some time off before getting back to work. Shanoff: “As ever, I am excited to keep talking with folks doing big things in media, news, sports & more" (John Ourand, Staff Writer).

UNION JUNCTION: The WNBPA has hired attorney EVIE GOLDSTEIN as its new Dir of Operations. Goldstein will oversee all day-to-day operations involving the WNBPA and all aspects of CBA relations with the WNBA. Goldstein, who will be the second person to hold this position for the union, will report to NBPA/WNBPA Exec Dir MICHELE ROBERTS and the WNBPA Exec Committee. She replaces PAMELA WHEELER, who left the union in December (Liz Mullen, Staff Writer).
