MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

With President Clinton set to visit Vietnam, ABC News'
Mark Litke examined the current conditions in the country
and how Nike, the "icon of American consumerism, is now the
largest private employer in Communist Vietnam, with nearly
50,000 workers." Litke: "Nike's Chris Helzer says American
companies now arriving here are met with a flood of job
seekers. [Workers] may earn only $50 a month, but that's
three times the national average. And there are extra
benefits, from free meals to free health care" (ABC, 11/15).
NBA: The NBA has created the NBA Athletic Collection,
the league's first-ever synthetic apparel line geared toward
the mass market. The Athletic Collection features infant
and toddler merchandise by Haddad, a youth line by Glasgow
and adult products by Knights Athletics. Additionally, the
Nike Swingman Jersey will be distributed nationally for the
first time, and Puma will unveil a new gradiated hat (NBA).
