SPORTS EXECS IN THE NEWS: MCCOMBS HONORED IN S.A.

The Univ. of TX business school was named in honor of
Vikings Owner RED MCCOMBS during a ceremony yesterday in
Austin, according to Bridget Gutierrez of the SAN ANTONIO
EXPRESS-NEWS. McCombs pledged $50M last May "to enhance the
college's stature, saying he wanted to help create the best
business school in the nation." The building will be called
the Red McCombs School of Business (EXPRESS-NEWS, 10/27).
KARMANOS' POISON PILL: The Board of Dirs of Hurricanes
Owner PETER KARMANOS' software company Compuware have
approved a poison pill making it "more difficult for the
company to be bought by an individual or another company."
The measures would take effect "if an individual or company
bought at least 15% of Compuware's stock." A "severe
falloff in software sales" has pushed Compuware's stock
price down 81% since January (NEWS & OBSERVER, 10/27).
A WORTHY PROGRAM: A N.Y. DAILY NEWS editorial praises
"Take The Field," the nonprofit group headed by NFL Giants
co-Owner ROBERT TISCH and partners, which "aims to rebuild
playing fields, swimming pools and gymnasiums at public
schools throughout the city." It is a "shining example of
     private-public partnership" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 10/27).
