          NFL OWNERS: Vikings Owner RED MCCOMBS has given a $50M
     gift to the Univ. of TX-Austin's (UTA) business school.  In
     turn, the school will be named the Red McCombs School of
     Business (NFL)....Titans Owner BUD ADAMS has issued an
     apology to former Houston Mayor BOB LANIER after making an
     "off-color gesture" toward Lanier at a news conference
     Wednesday.  Adams "extended the middle finger" of his right
     hand toward Lanier when asked where he would put a Super
     Bowl ring if the team should win one (HOU. CHRONICLE, 5/12). 
          MORE NAMES: The NCAA "issued a vague statement"
     yesterday regarding the SC Confederate Flag issue that
     "appears to clear the way for prominent" athletic event to
     remain in the state after the state passed a bill to remove
     the flag from its capital (Columbia STATE, 5/12)....Tennis
     player NATHALIE TAUZIAT claims in the recently published
     "Les Dessous du Tennis Feminin" (The Underside of Women's
     Tennis) that Sanex WTA Tour tournament execs have a
     "commitment list" of the 20 most marketable players on the
     women's circuit.  Tauziat writes that those players are
     given "extra bonuses ahead of players who might be higher in
     the world rankings" (NATIONAL POST, 5/12).
