Miller Park general contractor HCH Joint Venture "has
agreed to pay" $2M in a partial settlement of the lawsuit
filed in connection with the deaths of three workers in last
July's crane accident at the construction site. In the
partial settlement to the families of the three workers, HCH
"does not admit to anything wrong," but "remains a defendant
in the suit and could pay further damages," which are
"capped" at $102M due to the amount of liability insurance
coverage on the project (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/18).
OTHER NOTES: A BOSTON HERALD editorial noted the Red
Sox' "expected" argument that $300M in public funds for
their new ballpark is "a much smaller share ... than has
been typical in other cities" for similar projects. The
editorial stated, "It's an interesting fact -- but a largely
irrelevant one. ... The relevant question ought to be, what
will the public get in return for its contribution?" (BOSTON
HERALD, 1/17)....Vikings Owner Red McCombs, on the team's
desire for a new stadium: "The Vikings cannot survive in the
Metrodome. It won't work. We felt like we'd have a plan in
place by now. We don't. So, the clock is ticking on that"
(Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 1/18)....The retractable roof
stadium for Houston's new NFL franchise will be built by
Beers, a U.S. subsidiary of Swedish construction company
Skanska AB. Dallas-based Manhattan Construction will assist
on the project (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 1/15).
