STARR TAKES LEAP FOR LAMBEAU: FORMER QB TO APPEAR IN ADS

Packers HOF QB Bart Starr is the spokesperson in a
series of new TV ads for the Packers "designed to build
public support" for renovating and expanding Lambeau Field,
according to Scott Hildebrand of the GREEN BAY PRESS-
GAZETTE. In spots that will "begin airing this week," Starr
appears on the field "on a cold evening" and says the
Packers "will lay out a plan to save Lambeau Field for our
children and grandchildren." Starr asks WI residents to
"listen carefully" to the team's plan and to "remember,
we're not New York or Dallas. We don't have a billionaire
owner. All we have is you." Packers President Bob Harlan
said the team asked Starr to be involved in the campaign
because he "has a reputation for straight-shooting. We want
the state to understand the seriousness of the challenge
facing the Packers." The ad is the "first acknowledgement"
that the Packers have decided to renovate Lambeau (GREEN BAY
     PRESS-GAZETTE, 1/18). In Milwaukee, Walters & Walker cite a
source "knowledgeable" with the Packers' plan as saying that
renovating Lambeau would cost "at least" $200M, though "the
real number isn't nailed down yet." The source said that
"significant" public aid was expected, and added, "Otherwise
the project makes no sense" (JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/18).
