APRIL FOOL'S! GIANTS TO MOVE BACK PAC BELL OPENER

The MLB Giants, who have "long touted" April 1, 2000,
as the opening day for their new Pac Bell Park, will
actually play their home opener on April 11, according to
Henry Schulman of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Giants COO Larry Baer
said that Pac Bell "will be finished" by April 1, but the
team wants an "extra 10 days before" it plays a regular-
season game there "to make sure all the amenities are in
place." Baer: "Like anybody opening a great restaurant, we
want to take every precaution to make everything perfect."
Yesterday marked the first day season tickets for the new
park officially went on sale for those who didn't buy
charter seat licenses. Baer said that 1,500 season tickets
had been sold as of last night for a total 20,500, toward an
     "ultimate" goal of 28,000 (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/14).
