DEBARTOLO CORP. BOARD STRUGGLE HAS EDDIE BRINGING ON ALLIES

"Exiled" 49ers co-Owner Eddie DeBartolo "finally
succeeded yesterday in putting two of his loyalists" on the
board of the DeBartolo Corp. that oversees the 49ers,
according to Matier & Ross of the S.F. CHRONICLE, who write
that the move "adds a whole new dimension" to his feud with
his sister and team co-Owner Denise DeBartolo York.
DeBartolo named his oldest daughter, Tiffanie DeBartolo, and
his "longtime confidant," Ed Muransky, to represent him on
the board, and the two will "legally" give DeBartolo "an
equal voice over how the corporation is run." Eddie
DeBartolo spokesperson Rick Rice: "We think it's a large
step forward." DeBartolo York and her husband, John, make
up the other two on the board. So even with Eddie's two new
appointments, "the best he can hope for is a 2-to-2 split,"
with CEO DeBartolo York still "calling the shots." So, if
the two sides "can't reach an agreement, the dispute will
end up in the courts" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/14). In San Jose,
Clark Judge writes that the changes by DeBartolo "means his
interests on the board will be more strongly represented."
DeBartolo Corp. spokesperson Sam Singer says that "there is
no significance" to what happened yesterday to the lawsuit
filed last week against DeBartolo (MERCURY NEWS, 4/14).
