AND THE THUNDER FOLDS: WCHL PLACES FRANCHISE IN VEGAS

The IHL Las Vegas Thunder lost its lease at the Thomas
& Mack Center and, "barring any unforeseen turnarounds, will
fold shop when its regular season concludes Saturday,"
according to Kevin Iole of the LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL.
However, the city landed a WCHL team on Monday, as the Las
Vegas Wranglers will begin play in the 2000-01 season and be
owned by RHI Coyotes co-Owner Mike Talkington and CA
business execs Charles & Chuck Davenport. A facility has
not yet been determined (REVIEW-JOURNAL, 4/13). In Las
Vegas, Joe Hawk, on the team's goal to average 3,000-3,500
per game: "Could work. That's because the Wranglers plan to
market aggressively to a specific target audience -- young
people" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 4/13)....Meanwhile, the
AHL announced yesterday it has approved the move of the
Canadiens' farm team from Fredericton to Quebec City next
season. The Quebec Citadels will play in the 15,472-seat
Quebec Colisee and be operated by Jacques Tanguay, Michel
Cadrin and Paul Delage-Roberge (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 4/14).
