NBA ON PACE FOR ANOTHER NEW ARENA? INDY PUSHES FOR NEW HOME

     The Pacers want a new facility or renovated Market Square
Arena, and the city of Indianapolis has responded by
commissioning a $95,000 study on whether MSA can be renovated,
according to the INDIANAPOLIS STAR/NEWS.  Mary Francis reports
the team "is skeptical" that a renovated facility can bring them
the necessary luxury box and club seat profits it needs.
However, David Kahn, Pacers Assistant to the President, said the
club would remain "open-minded."  The Pacers reported an
operating loss of $2.6M last year.  Mayor Stephen Goldsmith wants
the team to stay on the city's East side, where MSA is located.
One proposal has the club playing at the RCA Dome while Market
Square is rebuilt (INDIANAPOLIS STAR/NEWS, 2/24).
