S.F. Giants President Peter Magowan believes raising $115M
to partially fund the club's proposed China Basin ballpark and
getting through environmental-impact "hoops" will be "trickier"
than convincing San Francisco voters to approve the measure to
build the facility. Speaking at his annual "state-of-the Giants
chat," Magowan said he is not taking the March 26 vote for
granted because, "we have a history of failure." He added that
raising $140M in private funding "is the easy part" and that the
key to raising the first $115M will be the sale of luxury suites
and "chartered seats." He stressed those are not to be confused
with PSLs, because, as he said, unlike the Raiders' seat
licenses, "if you buy these from the Giants, you have it forever.
It doesn't go back to the team after 10 years" (Joe Roderick,
CONTRA COSTA TIMES, 2/24). Magowan and Giants Exec VP Larry Baer
are scheduled to join S.F. Mayor Willie Brown and CA Sen. Quentin
Kopp at a morning news conference today, in which results of a
study of the stadium's economic impact on the city will be
revealed ("Yes on B" Committee).
