NBA Formally Announces Plans For BBVA Rising Stars Challenge

The NBA today formally announced plans to revamp the format of its rookie-sophomore game, and re-branded the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge with sponsorship from the league's official bank. TNT's Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal will serve as honorary GMs for the All-Star Weekend event on Feb. 24, with each drafting a mix of first- and second-year players. TNT's Kenny Smith will serve as honorary Commissioner, with Ernie Johnson hosting the draft on Feb. 16 on NBA TV. BBVA will activate its sponsorship with promotional materials, in-arena presence and special jersey patches (NBA).

Meanwhile, the NBA D-League and State Farm today announced that the 26 Seconds campaign will present the '12 D-League All-Star Game on Feb. 25. The shot clock during the game will be extended to 26 seconds in order to drive awareness about the fact that a student drops out of high school every 26 seconds in the U.S. (NBA D-League).
