Smith oversees the largest sports union in the U.S., which through licensing and other businesses saw substantial financial growth. Total assets of the NFLPA grew nearly 10 percent, to more than $400 million. The players didn’t fare as well, though, as a deal to strip Commissioner Roger Goodell of his disciplinary power never materialized, and Tom Brady ultimately lost in the “Deflategate” debacle.
