Former Barcelona Presidential Candidate Lodges Vote Of No Confidence

Former Barcelona presidential candidate Agustí Benedito "lodged a vote of no confidence against the club's current board," according to Samuel Marsden of ESPN.com. He cited "continued mismanagement at the top level" by current President Josep Maria Bartomeu and his predecessor, Sandro Rosell. Benedito: "The serious institutional crisis at our club requires that the club's members assess whether the current board still has our confidence. If you are a club member and believe that to restore the club we love the board should resign, join up with the will of many other fans by signing the vote of no confidence." To "take the vote of no confidence to the next stage," Benedito needs the support of 15% of the club's members within 14 days, "which he estimates is around 16,500 people" (ESPN.com, 6/8). SPORT reported Toni Freixa, who was a candidate for the club's presidential election in '15, finds the motion against Bartomeu "justified," but at the moment does not support it. Freixa "reportedly believes it is logical that many fans are upset with the management by the current board," but wants to "wait to see how Bartomeu reacts in the next few days" before taking action (SPORT, 6/8).
