Former British motocross champion STEVEN LENOIR died "after a crash during qualifying in France on Monday." The 25-year-old French rider, who was second in the British MX1 championship, "was preparing for the race in Cassel." Lenoir was reportedly "airlifted to hospital in Lille following the crash" (BBC, 6/5). ... GUSTAVO SALAZAR DELGADO will be "excused from duties" as deputy president of the Badminton World Federation "until a bribery investigation against him has been completed." Salazar, who joined the BWF Council in '07 before being elected to his current role six years later, is being probed for "alleged involvement in a Peruvian money laundering case surrounding Brazilian construction firm Odebrecht" (INSIDE THE GAMES, 6/5). ... DILLON BOUCHER set a National Basketball League record in the Supercity Rangers' 101-83 loss to the Southland Sharks on Monday. Boucher played in his 409th NBL game, "eclipsing the record" held by PHILL JONES (NEW ZEALAND HERALD, 6/5). ... Former League Championship side Newcastle footballer CHEICK TIOTÉ died, aged 30, "after collapsing during a training session in China." Tioté, who moved to China second division side Beijing Enterprises four months ago, was reportedly "rushed to the hospital on Monday." It "soon emerged that the Ivorian had passed away" (London DAILY MAIL, 6/5). ... Tennis player TOMÁŠ BERDYCH "parted company" with coach GORAN IVANIŠEVIĆ after "suffering an early French Open exit last week," the Czech said on Monday. Croatian Ivanišević, the 2001 Wimbledon champion who helped MARIN ČILIĆ win the US Open in '14, joined Berdych's coaching team in August (REUTERS, 6/5).

MEDIBIO: MICHAEL PHELPS  joined the board of an Australian-listed medical technology company that "developed a test for depression." Medibio announced on Monday that the American swimmer, who retired from competition in '16 with a "haul of 28 Olympic medals," is one of its newly-appointed directors. Phelps said that he has used Medibio's technology -- which analyzes biomarkers including heart rate, body clock and autonomic nervous system -- "to detect and help manage mental health disorders" (THE WEST AUSTRALIAN, 6/5).
