Paris 2024 Committee Congratulates New French President Emmanuel Macron

Emmanuel Macron was “congratulated by the Paris 2024 committee for being elected president of France,” according to LE PARISIEN. Macron “never hid that Paris winning the 2024 Olympics was a primary objective of his sports program.” On the night Macron officially won the presidency, Paris 2024 co-Chair Tony Estanguet applauded Macron’s win in a tweet saying he was “anxious to speak about Paris 2024,” describing it as a “common ambition for France.” Speaking before the first round of elections, Macron’s spokesperson Christophe Castaner said, “We cannot measure the ripple effect of these Games. It would be an immediate benefit and a breath of fresh air” (LE PARISIEN, 5/8).

PARIS 2024 STATEMENT: On behalf of the entire Paris 2024 Bid Committee we would like to congratulate Emmanuel Macron on becoming the newly elected President of France. We know that our new President will be a great supporter of the Paris 2024 bid and play a key role in helping us secure the nation's ambition to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He understands the power of sport and how the Games can be a force for real change and help build inspiration and inclusion (Paris 2024).
