Sevilla Sporting Dir Monchi Announces Departure, Confirms AS Roma Interest

La Liga side Sevilla Sporting Dir Monchi said that Serie A side AS Roma is "among the clubs who could move for him," according to Adriana Garcia of ESPN.com. On Thursday, Sevilla announced that it reached an agreement "to part company with Monchi after 29 years." The 48-year-old confirmed a report in Italy that he met Roma President James Pallotta. Monchi said, "It's true that I listened to their project, but that was all. I have not signed anything with anyone." Sevilla President Pepe Castro "hoped to keep Monchi and offered him a lucrative deal to remain." Castro: "We made an offer to him that was beyond our limits." Monchi said that his decision to leave the club he joined as a player in '88 was made "because he wanted a new challenge."
