Chelsea Holds London Stadium Groundshare Talks With West Ham United

Chelsea held renewed talks with West Ham United "over a potential groundshare at the London Stadium during the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge," according to Matt Hughes of the LONDON TIMES. The club "would prefer" to play home matches at Wembley during the three years when its new stadium is being built, but Chelsea has "exhaustively researched other grounds" within the M25 in case it is unable to reach an agreement with the FA. The London Stadium "emerged as the only credible alternative." A "possible move" to Twickenham has been ruled out "due to opposition from the Rugby Football Union and local residents." Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium is unavailable due to a "strict limit on the number of events it can stage." Chelsea "ruled out making approaches" to Crystal Palace, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers as it "considers their grounds to be too small." Chelsea remains "hopeful of reaching an agreement with the FA to move into Wembley," possibly as early as the start of the '18-19 season, although that deal is "complicated by Tottenham’s plan to move to the national stadium for one season" during the final stages of Tottenham's own redevelopment (LONDON TIMES, 4/1).
