Marketplace Roundup: EPL Teams To Wear Shirts Featuring New Style Of Names, Numbers

From the start of next season, Premier League clubs will wear shirts adorned with a new set of names and numbers. The Premier League and official partner Sporting iD worked closely to develop the modern and vibrant designs, featuring updated lettering. In the first change in 10 years, there will be five approved colorways: white with black details and black, navy, red, and yellow, all with white details. The only previous style was the original set (Premier League).

Swiss agency Synergy Sports was elected by COMEBOL to sell sponsorship rights for Copa Sudamericana, the South American equivalent of the Europa League. Synergy will be in charge of finding sponsors for the ’17 and ’18 editions of the tournament (CONMEBOL).

The 2018 PyeongChang Organizing Committee and Noodle Lovers signed an agreement that sees the company lending its support to the upcoming Games in the "packaged pasta/noodles and noodle sauce" category (PyeongChang 2018).

The ASEAN Football Federation announced it agreed to terms with Lagardère Sports to manage the commercial rights of the ASEAN Football Championship. The new contract terms were awarded following a successful partnership cycle from '09-16 (AFF).

Euroleague Basketball announced a partnership that makes Acibadem Healthcare Group the official medical services provider for the next two Euroleague Final Fours. Acibadem will provide all of the medical services and professionals for Final Four events at the arenas, fan zones, official hotels and more (Euroleague Basketball).

The Malaysia Basketball Association, which has been "without a main sponsor since Petronas ended its 20-year partnership" in '15, signed a "year-long deal" worth about $790,600 with Westports Malaysia ($564,700) and property firm PRG Holdings ($225,900). This is a "significant upgrade from the Petronas long-term deal," which yielded a total investment of $4.74M, and "even saw a reduction in sponsorship coffers" from '10-15 (ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS, 3/21).

Media spending was the "biggest single driver of the Indian sports sponsorship market" in '16, "increasing by almost 25% and accounting for over half of the total," new data has shown. According to a recent report by GroupM's ESP and SportzPower, total sports sponsorship in India rose 19.3% in '16 to reach about $978M, or 11.5% of all advertising expenditure. Within that, media spending was up 24.6% to $536.5M -- an additional $106M (ASIA SPONSORSHIP NEWS, 3/20).

Global IT services company HCL Technologies has been chosen as the strategic IT services provider to the Volvo Ocean Race. HCL will be responsible for developing and delivering IT solutions for the '17-18 edition of the race around the world (HCL Technologies).

Brewery Carib is "coming onboard" the Caribbean Premier League as a sponsor for the next three years. Carib will be the official beer of the tournament, and officials at Carib will "work together with the tournament's marketing and sponsorship team this summer" to deliver fan-centered events around the various stadia (TRINIDAD & TOBAGO GUARDIAN, 3/20).

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright announced the continuation of its partnership with McLaren-Honda Formula 1 for a further two years (McLaren-Honda).
