Scottish Premiership side Dundee admitted its "American dream of playing a league match against Celtic in Philadelphia has died following confirmation of the latest set of live television fixtures." Dundee's March 19 clash with Celtic, originally planned to be held in the U.S., "most probably in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, will instead take place at the less exotic venue of Dens Park." The match "will be shown on Sky Sports." The Dens Park club was "pressed into making an announcement" after the Scottish Professional Football League "revealed the latest round of televised matches, for games in March and April." It was reported in May that Dundee’s bid to host Celtic in the U.S. was 85% complete, with the stadium already booked. SPFL CEO Neil Doncaster said that playing a Premiership game outside Scotland “had merit” (SCOTSMAN, 1/11).
Retired boxer Floyd Mayweather offered UFC fighter Conor McGregor $15M and a cut of the pay-per-view for what would be "a highly anticipated crossover bout." The 39-year-old unbeaten boxing champion was "responding to McGregor's demand" of a $100M purse for the fight. Mayweather, who retired in Sept. '15 with a perfect 49-0 record, told ESPN the fight made "business sense" (London TELEGRAPH, 1/11).
Argentina and Uruguay on Wednesday officially presented their joint bid to host the FIBA World Cup in '23. Argentina and Uruguay's joint bid will be competing with Germany, Turkey, Qatar, Israel, Serbia, Russia and the Philippines (CLARÍN, 1/11).
