National League side York City appointed Jackie McNamara as CEO with "immediate effect" just days after sacking him as first-team manager, according to Tom Farmery of the London DAILY MAIL. McNamara's" move upstairs" to the boardroom -- and newly-created position -- comes after ex-Wrexham coach Gary Mills took over as manager of the Conference club for the second time. McNamara will "partly be responsible for controlling the club's playing budget." A club statement said, "It has become abundantly clear that a full-time Chief Executive is required at York City Football Club and Jackie is keen to implement and conclude the work we began to overhaul the Club from top to bottom confirmed in the Chairman's Statement in April this year." The club also confirmed that Chair John McGill will "relinquish some of his responsibility so that he can concentrate more on his company JM Packaging." Mills himself had been sacked as manager of Wrexham "only three days prior to the appointment and his return to the York helm" (DAILY MAIL, 10/16).
