Media Notes: Andy Murray Makes Official Complaint To ATP Tour

Andy Murray "has made an official complaint to the ATP Tour after his private match notes for the final of the China Open were broadcast on television." Murray "lashed out at tennis broadcasters for invading his privacy to screen the tactics he had handwritten" for the encounter against Grigor Dimitrov. It is not the first time Murray "has blown up" over his match notes being filmed by TV cameras. The broadcast "revealed several key focus areas for his game plan that may be of use to his rivals." Murray: "It’s not for everyone else to see, otherwise I’d stick them up on the umpire’s chair so everyone else could see it” (HERALD SUN, 10/11).

German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF "secured a sublicense" from ProSiebenSat.1 to broadcast the WTA Finals later this month. Rights agency SportA, in cooperation between ARD and ZDF, "negotiated the sublicense for the event, which will take place in Singapore from Oct. 23-30" (DPA, 10/12).

Eurosport has strengthened its association with the Olympic Games after agreeing to a partnership that will see highlights of the 2016 Int'l Surfing Association World Championships broadcast in the Asia-Pacific region. The deal is the first the ISA has announced since surfing was officially welcomed into the Olympic program by the IOC in August. Broadcast in 47 countries, Eurosport Asia-Pacific will show highlights from each of the four ISA World Championship events held during the '16 season starting with the competition in Costa Rica. Eurosport Asia-Pacific will also show the 2016 ISA World Junior Surfing Championship from the Azores, the 2016 ISA Fiji Stand-Up Paddle and Paddleboard World Championships in Cloudbreak, Fiji, and the 2016 ISA Stance World Adaptive Surfing Championships from La Jolla, USA (Eurosport).

Eurosport 1 "has commenced offering its linear TV channel as a free-of-charge live-stream on the internet in Germany." Following a registration, the live TV service "is freely accessible, as an OTT service, on the Eurosport website" (BROADBAND TV NEWS, 10/12).

Perform has extended its portfolio of clients for its Watch&Bet live streaming service, agreeing to a deal with Malta-based operator IBA Entertainment for its German-facing brand, Bet3000. Watch&Bet is a major supplier of live sports video and consumer-facing data to online and retail bookmakers. The partnership will provide Bet3000 with access to over 18,000 live events per year including La Liga, Ligue 1, the EFL Cup and WTA & ATP tennis (Perform Group).

Euroleague Basketball, IMG and Greek broadcaster Novasports have concluded a new deal that will keep the Euroleague on Novasports channels through '20. There was still one more season on the current agreement, but both sides decided to renegotiate and add another three seasons. Novasports channels have been broadcasting Euroleague games for more than a decade. The new, long-term agreement provides exclusive rights to Novasports (Euroleague).
