Media Notes: Sky Sport To Bring National Basketball League Coverage To New Zealand

The National Basketball League is set to return to New Zealand screens in October with Sky Sport bringing every game over the '16-17 season and beyond. The New Zealand Breakers' first game of the season sees them take on Melbourne United on Oct. 7 at Vector Arena and will be broadcast on Sky Sport 3 at 7:30pm. While Sky Sport and the NBL have formed a three-year partnership for the rights, the agreement will undergo a review at the conclusion of each season (NBL). 

TV networks serving more than 200 countries and territories across six continents will provide live coverage of the World Cup of Hockey 2016. Several of these agreements are with broadcasters in countries receiving World Cup of Hockey coverage for the first time, including China. On TV, 29 broadcast partners will serve more than 200 countries and territories, and Sport 24 will provide in-flight and ship-at-sea broadcast coverage. Radio coverage includes Sportsnet Radio Network, including Sportsnet 590 The Fan (Toronto) and Sportsnet 960 The Fan (Calgary); SiriusXM (U.S. and Canada) and Cogeco (French in Quebec) (World Cup of Hockey). 

L’Équipe launched its own Snapchat account to offer content to a younger audience. With the majority of Snapchat users being under 30, the goal is to attract a new audience that tends to shy away from traditional media. Following ESPN and Bleacher Report in the U.S., L’Équipe is the only sports media company on Snapchat in France (L’Équipe).

German sports network Sport1 has secured a co-presenting partner for its UEFA Europa League broadcasts during the '16-17 season. The channel teamed up with delivery service Lieferando, which joins beer brand Krombacher as a presenting partner. The two companies succeed sports betting providers Bwin and Tipico as co-presenting partners (Sport1).

The remodeled press box at Mexico City's Estadio Azteca "reopened" for Saturday's game between Liga MX sides América and León. Less than two months until the NFL's return to Mexico City on Nov. 21, "the stadium renovations are on the verge of concluding; the seating capacity will be reduced from 99,700 to 84,000." The work will officially be completed on Oct. 12 (LA AFICIÓN, 9/17).
