German TV Channel RTL Draws Highest F1 Viewership In Three Years For Monaco GP

German free-to-air TV channel RTL "recorded its highest F1 viewership in three years for its broadcast of the Monaco F1 Grand Prix," according to the SID. The race from the principality drew an average of 5.81 million viewers starting at 2pm on Sunday. The race, which was won by Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, obtained a market share of 34.8%. It was RTL's highest F1 viewership figure since the '13 Monaco GP, which attracted 7.45 million viewers. This season's previous top rating was set two weeks ago at the Spanish GP, when 4.58 million viewers tuned in to watch the race (SID, 5/30).

FOOTBALL RATINGS: QUOTENMETER's Manuel Nunez Sanchez reported German public broadcaster ZDF drew more than 8 million viewers for its broadcast of Saturday's UEFA Champions League final. An average of 8.19 million viewers tuned in starting at 8:50pm to watch Real Madrid beat crosstown rivals Atletico 5-3 on penalty kicks. The number translated into a market share of 31.2%. In the target demographic 14-49, the game attracted 2.98 million viewers and had a 33% share. Pay-TV network Sky, which also showed the game, drew 340,000 viewers and a a 1.3% share. In the target demo, Sky obtained a 2% share as 180,000 viewers tuned in (QUOTENMETER, 5/29). QUOTENMETER's Robert Meyer wrote German public broadcaster ARD attracted 6.59 million for its broadcast of the int'l football friendly between Germany and Slovakia on Sunday. The game, which Slovakia won 3-1, recorded a 27.5% maket share. In the target demo, the game drew a 24.3% share as 2.03 million viewers tuned in (QUOTENMETER, 5/30).

IN FRANCE: CB NEWS reported French TV channel D8 (Canal+), broadcaster of the Champions League Final, “drew no less than 4.2 million viewers, a 21.1% market share” for the match on Saturday. BeIN Sports also broadcast the match, but “has not revealed its audience numbers yet” (CB NEWS, 5/29).
