Marketplace Roundup: Eurowings Named New 'Champion Partner' Of Borussia Dortmund

Airline Eurowings will be the new "Champion Partner" of Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund from July 1 onward. The company, which forms part of the Lufthansa Group, will closely accompany the BVB squad from next season and will serve as the club's official airline for away matches. Eurowings' cooperation with the eight-time German Bundesliga champions and 1997 Champions League winners comprises numerous different components which extend beyond the scope of traditional sponsoring. The cooperation includes the presence of advertisements in the stadium and an extensive digital cooperation, including social media. On Facebook alone, Borussia Dortmund currently has more than 14.2 million fans. The most tangible sign of the new partnership is an airplane completely painted in black and yellow colors, which Eurowings and BVB unveiled on Wednesday (Borussia Dortmund).

The Jamaica Football Federation Premier League playoffs for the first time "have sponsorship." J Wray and Nephew Ltd., through its Charley's JB Rum, will contribute $9M over a three-year period. A sum of $3M will be spent each year, with a breakdown of $1.2M to the JFF toward administration, referees, the clubs and other related expenses. The other $1.8M "will be spent on marketing execution during the three-week play-offs" (JAMAICA GLEANER, 5/18).

Bangladeshi mobile operator Robi "signed a 3-year partnership deal with Bangladesh Cricket Board." BCB and Robi "will work together for the development of cricket in the country." Robi "will serve as BCB’s partner" for talent hunt programs for the next three years. The deal provides Robi "with exclusive rights" to sponsor cricket award ceremonies over the next three years. The agreement "also recognizes Robi as the Telecom partner of BCB" (TELECOM PAPER, 5/18).

John Pye Auctions
 extended its team sponsorship of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club team until the end of the '18 season. All three of the club's playing shirts "have featured the logo of the independent auction house since the start of the 2015 campaign." As well as committing to a two-year extension on the original partnership, John Pye "has agreed to additional support for the club's academy and official charity, the Trent Bridge Community Trust" (NOTTINGHAM POST, 5/18).
