Marketplace Roundup: Nike Releases Special Sneakers For Serena Williams

Nike has designed a "handful of special sneakers" for Serena Williams ahead of the annual French Open, consisting of the Nike Air Max 1, NikeCourt Flare and the Nike Roshe LD-1000. Each of the silhouettes in this collection "carries the same floral theme" (KICKS ON FIRE, 5/16). ... Nike has "a shoe built that is geared toward play on a clay court." A Paris-inspired colorway of the NikeCourt Air Zoom Ultrafly Clay retails for $220. The shoe is "available via the brand’s website, nike.com and select Nike retailers" (FOOTWEAR NEWS, 5/16).

VILLAGE HOTEL AMBASSADOR: English cricketer Joe Root has "joined forces with the team at Village Hotel Club to represent the brand's 28 hotel and gym complexes" across the U.K. The Yorkshireman "will become the face of Village Hotel Club throughout the year, as well as featuring across a number of unique promotions within the Village Pubs and Gyms." In addition, Root will "carry the Village brand on his bat throughout the season when competing for both county and country" (ISPORTCONNECT, 5/17).

MARKETING BRIEFS ...
Hankook Tire has reportedly "signed a sponsorship agreement with Real Madrid," with the deal personally led by company President Cho Hyun-bum. The tire maker "has yet to confirm entering into a contract with the Spanish football club, and details of the alleged agreement are not yet known" (TYRE PRESS, 5/11). 

Lagardère Sports has secured nine sponsors for this year's four Bundesliga relegation games: Bet-at-home.comFalken Tyre EuropeHörmannLieferandoMedia MarktSkyTargobankVodafone and Volkswagen. Six of this year's partners already appeared at last year's game. All of the partners will receive ad space on LED boards along with additional marketing presence (Lagardère Sports). 

League Championship side Middlesbrough FC's partnership with adidas is set to continue with an extended agreement. The club's playing kit and training wear has been produced by adidas since '09 and that is set to continue in the Premier League next season and beyond (Middlesbrough). 

Suzuki Vietnam signed a two-year contract "to sponsor the national football squads" in Ho Chi Minh City. Apart from "supporting nutrition regime and training programmes Suzuki is expected to present a bonus for the national men’s team which will compete at the AFF Suzuki Cup in November in Myanmar and the Philippines" (VIETNAM NEWS, 5/17).

NRL side Cronulla Sharks announced a new partnership with Infinity Group Australia. The partnership, which runs through the '17 season, will see the Infinity Group logo featured on the back of the Sharks NRL playing strip beginning with the match against the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium on Sunday (Sharks).  

Ugandan Super League side Kampala Capital City Authority unveiled a partnership with Britam Insurance Company "that will see the company take over the club's health insurance." Britam is "giving health insurance" to 40 staff members in a sponsorship worth 4.2B Ugandan shillings ($1.2M) for three years. The beneficiaries include "all first team players" (KAWOWO, 5/17).

ClubApp, the live scoring platform for sports clubs of all sizes, announced a multi-year partnership with Irish three-time major champion golfer Padraig Harrington. As an ambassador for ClubApp, Harrington will be supporting the brand through various campaigns and digital media initiatives (ClubApp).
