Man City’s website "crashed under the weight of demand" as Champions League semifinal tickets went on sale, according to Jack Gaughan of the London DAILY MAIL. It "is thought up to 19,000 supporters logged on to purchase seats" for the first leg against Real Madrid next week. That pressure meant the website "crashed shortly after tickets went on sale, with the problem also having implications on the Etihad Stadium office" for much of Monday. City fans have been criticized for "not engaging with the Champions League over the last five seasons, but were desperate to land stubs" for the last-four tie. The club was forced into apologizing, however, "after plenty complained about the stuttering website" (DAILY MAIL, 4/19).
MAINTENANCE ERROR: The BBC's Steven McKenzie reported the website of Scottish League Cup winner Ross County "was accidentally deleted, causing problems with selling tickets." The Dingwall-based Scottish Premiership outfit "uses web hosting firm 123-reg." The company, which hosts 1.7 million sites in the U.K., said that "an error" made during maintenance "effectively deleted" what was on some of its servers (BBC, 4/19).
