Leeds United To Offer Fans 50% Refund If It Does Not Reach Playoffs

League Championship side Leeds United is offering supporters "up to a 50% refund on the net price" of their season tickets next season if the team fails to qualify for the Championship playoffs, according to Alan Smith of the London GUARDIAN. While prices "have been frozen for a third consecutive season," Leeds has installed an added incentive that will offer supporters a 25% refund of the net price if it fails to finish in the top six. That would rise to 50% if more than 15,000 sign up to the scheme. The club said that the incentive is "a clear statement of our intent to gain promotion" and it is "more determined than ever" to rejoin the Premier League (GUARDIAN, 4/19). In London, Tom Farmery reported finishing in the top six next year "would be quite an achievement" given that Leeds has not reached the Championship playoffs since '06, when it lost to Watford 3-0 in the final at the Millennium Stadium. The club also pledged to refund all season ticket holders to the value of 50% if over 15,000 tickets are sold for the '16-17 season. The most expensive season tickets at Elland Road for next season are £688 ($991) and can be found in the Bremner Suite. It will also only cost fans younger than 11 £99 ($143) for a season ticket in any part of the ground and a 45% reduction in U16 season tickets has been made. The news comes days after it was reported that Owner Massimo Cellino "is looking to line up former Italian World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro as the next manager of the club" (DAILY MAIL, 4/19).
