UEFA Yet To Select Euro 2016's Spanish Rights Holder As June 10 Kickoff Nears

Euro 2016 will kick off on June 10 in France, but "as of today it is still unknown which channel in Spain will carry the national team's games," according to SPORT. UEFA "has not been able to award the rights in Spain for the tournament." Spanish broadcasters believe the sum of €45M ($51M) that UEFA is seeking for the rights "is excessive." It "has been guessed" that Mediaset (through Tele 5) will offer the games on free-TV and Movistar+ on pay-TV, "but the topic is far from closed." Because Spain won the last two editions of the tournament in '08 and '12, "it is difficult to understand how it remains uncertain where the team's fans will be able to follow the games" (SPORT, 4/18).

TELEDEPORTE TO CARRY WPT: EL CONFIDENCIAL reported Spanish public broadcaster RTVE and the World Padel Tour reached an agreement in which Teledeporte "will become the official channel of the tour." The "biggest WPT finals" will be available on Teledeporte, which will also carry a program with the "best images, results, standings and player interviews from both the men's and women's circuit" (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 4/18).
