Marketplace Roundup: Former AFL Player Capper In Dispute With Fast-Food Franchise

Former Australian Football League player Warwick Capper "is in dispute with a leading fast-food chicken franchise, claiming his image has been used without consent." Capper, "the one-time high-flying Sydney Swan and Brisbane Bear," is seeking almost A$300,000 ($232,000) "in a spat with Nando's Australia." Capper "is seeking recompense for a four-week advertising campaign in July last year" when his name was "mentioned in a radio campaign and plastered on the side of buses without his knowledge." The campaign "was run by Banjo Advertising" (THE AGE, 4/18).

CREAM OF THE CROP
: The Lawn Tennis Association "announced a partnership with Rodda’s, producer of Cornish clotted cream." The partnership will build on the Cornish brand’s national exposure as the "premium serve" at the LTA’s grass-court series of tournaments, including the Aegon Championships at The Queen’s Club, London. Rodda’s presence "will include sampling, retail space, and its Cornish clotted cream will be served within all hospitality" (SPORT INDUSTRY, 4/18).

Artemis Racing
entered into a sponsorship agreement with Argo Group, an int'l underwriter of specialty insurance products. The Argo Group logo will adorn Artemis Racing America’s Cup boats and team clothing at events from the New York Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series onward. Under the agreement, Argo Group is also the official insurance partner of Artemis Racing (Argo Group).

Premiership side Northampton Saints announced that Travis Perkins agreed to a new four-year deal to remain as the club’s principal sponsor. This latest extension, which will see Travis Perkins’ logo be carried on the Saints’ playing shirts until at least '21, continues what was already the longest continuous main sponsorship anywhere in top flight professional sport in the U.K. Travis Perkins first became the Saints’ principal sponsor in '01 (Northampton Saints).

Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais extended its partnership with Hyundai as the club’s primary shirt sponsor until ’18. OL President Jean-Michel Aulas and Hyundai Motor France President Kyoo-Bok Lee announced the renewal at the Parc OL. Hyundai has been a partner with the club since ’12 (OL).

Malmsten AB renewed its long-term partnership with the FINA World Aquatics Convention for the next two editions of the event taking place in Windsor, Canada ('16) and Hangzhou, China ('18). Official Supplier for FINA, Malmsten AB has been involved with FINA's Convention since its inception in '10 (FINA).

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund "agreed to two new partnerships in Thailand." The club entered into a cooperation with the Suphanburi Academy for three years. In addition, Dortmund "signed a partnership deal" with Thai media company PPTV. The TV channel "is also a partner of the German Football League (DFL)." Both deals "were brokered by the club's int'l office in Singapore" (SPONSORs, 4/18).

Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim extended its partnership with Audi for another two years until '18. Audi has been the club's official car partner since '09 (TSG Hoffenheim).

Handball Bundesliga (HBL) club Rhein-Neckar Löwen signed a new shirt sponsorship deal with gambling company Löwen Entertainment. The logo of company subsidiary Admiral will be featured on the club's jersey for the next three years (Rhein-Neckar Löwen).

Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) club s.Oliver Baskets Würzburg renewed its deal with car dealer chain Spindler until '18. The chain will remain the club's official car partner (s.Oliver Baskets).
