Swiss Top Flight Hockey League NLA Sets New Regular-Season Attendance Record

The recently completed NLA regular season "attracted a record attendance of more than 2.1 million spectators," according to the NEUE ZÜRCHER ZEITUNG. Switzerland's top flight hockey league for the first time recorded an average attendance of more than 7,000 fans per game. The NLA drew more than 2 million spectators for the third consecutive season. The club with the biggest increase was EHC Biel. The club, which moved into a new arena, drew 1,220 more fans per game than during the previous season. Biel's increased attendance number along with promoted club SCL Tigers were the main reasons for the new record. The Tigers drew an average attendance of 5,868 spectators. The Kloten Flyers suffered the biggest decline this season. The team's attendance fell by an average of 472 per game. SC Bern remain firmly on top of the list with an average attendance of 16,164. The club therefore defends its position as the hockey club with the highest attendance outside of North America. With more than 7,000 spectators per game, the NLA defends its position as the highest attended hockey league in Europe (NZZ, 2/29).
