England & Wales Cricket Board President Set To Explain Role In Int'l Cricket Council Takeover

England & Wales Cricket Board President Giles Clarke is "set to be summoned to parliament to explain his role in the controversial takeover" at the Int'l Cricket Council two years ago, according to Lawrence Booth of the London DAILY MAIL. Clarke will become the "latest prominent sporting administrator to give evidence" to the House of Commons select committee for Culture, Media & Sport -- following appearances by FA Chair Greg Dyke in October during the inquest into corruption at FIFA, and IAAF President Sebastian Coe in December as politicians sought answers to questions about doping in athletics. Though a date is yet to be set for the hearing, Clarke is "expected to answer questions about the part the ECB played" in the restructuring of the int'l game’s finances at the start of '14 -- a process that "left more money and power in the hands of the so-called ‘Big Three’ boards of India, England and Australia." The takeover, which was "drawn up behind closed doors and presented to other Full Members of the International Cricket Council as a fait accompli, angered many in the game who felt it would exacerbate the already considerable financial gap between the global game’s rich and poor" (DAILY MAIL, 2/29).
