Sydney is "edging closer" to hosting the NFL's annual Pro Bowl game after league officials confirmed they are looking at a "very specific proposal" to hold the concept in Australia, according to Matt Logue of the Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH. NFL Exec VP Int'l Mark Waller said that the league was "seriously considering moving the all-stars match Down Under." Waller's comments follow NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's belief that this year's Pro Bowl in Hawaii was "disappointing" and he is "keen to see the game played in another country to give it a much-needed boost." It is understood Brazil and Melbourne are "also in the mix," however, Sydney's proven record in hosting major sporting events, including Major League Baseball's '14 season opener at the Sydney Cricket Ground, makes it the front runner. The Harbour City last hosted a pre-season match between the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers "in front of 73,811 fans at the Olympic Stadium" in '99. It is understood a final decision on the location for the '16 Pro Bowl "will be made within weeks" (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 2/8).
